Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 7.09% or 36.40 points to trade at 549.50 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 6.54% or 17.65 points to end at 287.45 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 5.26% or 9.75 points to 195.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 4.56% or 9.05 points to trade at 189.50 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.87% or 2.35 points to end at 79.60 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) shed 1.96% or 9.75 points to 487.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 6.93% to 549.55, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.65% to settle at 432.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 4.17% to close at 3635.00.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.29% to 79.35 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.97% to settle at 487.15 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.53% to 914.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 905 to 690 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1365 fell and 1104 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.53% to 21.8000.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.95% or 18.80 to $1997.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.13% or 0.48 to hit $43.09 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.56 to trade at $45.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.39% to 72.965, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 87.4485.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 91.845.
