Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.70% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 3.48% or 60.35 points to trade at 1,795.00 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 3.04% or 13.75 points to end at 465.35 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 2.84% or 10.35 points to 375.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 1.84% or 4.70 points to trade at 250.45 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 1.74% or 81.55 points to end at 4,610.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 1.56% or 16.40 points to 1,035.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 2.53% to 2,615.20, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.50% to settle at 462.95 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 2.46% to close at 7,335.35.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.86% to 250.35 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.83% to settle at 1,032.15 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.12% to 9,676.75 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1093 to 891 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1873 rose and 1697 declined, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.85% to 11.54 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.45% or 8.65 to $1,920.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.95% or 0.67 to hit $71.31 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.65 to trade at $76.06 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 81.95, while EUR/INR rose 0.32% to 89.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 102.79.
