Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.68%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 5.86% or 36.95 points to trade at 667.20 at the close. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 2.10% or 105.85 points to end at 5,142.80 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 1.83% or 13.70 points to 762.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which lost 1.24% or 12.65 points to trade at 1,009.25 in late trade. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 1.10% or 54.95 points to end at 4,954.25 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) shed 1.00% or 8.65 points to 853.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 1.59% to 565.95, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.59% to settle at 2,762.50 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.42% to close at 973.45.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 0.49% to 5,017.60 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.28% to settle at 9,438.90 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.04% to 445.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1157 to 768 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1916 rose and 1448 declined, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.42% to 10.78 a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.55 to $1,933.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.05% or 0.73 to hit $68.64 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.73 to trade at $73.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 82.02, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 89.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 102.18.
