Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.68% to hit a new 6-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 4.17% or 196.05 points to trade at 4,901.45 at the close. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) added 3.91% or 31.00 points to end at 823.10 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.36% or 11.95 points to 368.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which lost 1.19% or 11.60 points to trade at 960.45 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 1.00% or 19.65 points to end at 1,939.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 0.48% or 34.00 points to 7,079.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 2.97% to 22,345.80, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 2.29% to settle at 111.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.70% to close at 843.30.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.15% to 1,938.30 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 0.51% to settle at 7,080.40 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.35% to 1,405.75 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1285 to 677 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2185 rose and 1251 declined, while 129 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.55% to 11.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.12% or 2.40 to $1,979.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.06% or 0.76 to hit $72.50 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.76 to trade at $77.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 82.51, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 88.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 103.88.
