Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 7.15% or 18.90 points to trade at 281.30 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 4.89% or 7.70 points to end at 164.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.01% or 15.70 points to 537.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which lost 3.61% or 63.25 points to trade at 1681.70 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 1.11% or 7.30 points to end at 646.80 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 1.40% or 4.85 points to 342.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 2.98% to 259.25, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.97% to settle at 548.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.70% to close at 266.30.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 4.00% to 1683.75 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.14% to settle at 342.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.94% to 1905.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 950 to 654 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1397 rose and 1091 declined, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.95% to 12.8250.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 2.10 to $1241.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.18% or 0.12 to hit $67.19 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $71.87 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 68.425, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 80.1810.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 94.21.
