Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.56% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 4.96% or 87.20 points to trade at 1,846.50 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 3.65% or 25.10 points to end at 713.60 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 2.85% or 115.80 points to 4,177.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which lost 1.52% or 49.60 points to trade at 3,213.80 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 1.50% or 21.45 points to end at 1,406.15 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 1.46% or 16.10 points to 1,087.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 5.04% to 1,847.60, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 2.43% to settle at 107.50 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 1.90% to close at 396.10.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.50% to 3,214.25 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 1.42% to settle at 1,407.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.41% to 1,087.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1207 to 733 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2143 rose and 1278 declined, while 105 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.42% to 11.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 14.90 to $2,018.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.30% or 0.24 to hit $79.50 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.29 to trade at $83.89 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 82.11, while EUR/INR rose 0.71% to 89.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 101.77.
