Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO), which rose 6.35% or 32.15 points to trade at 538.50 at the close. Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) added 5.84% or 19.15 points to end at 347.00 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 2.87% or 12.25 points to 438.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 3.34% or 21.90 points to trade at 633.00 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 1.89% or 10.30 points to end at 535.45 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) shed 1.86% or 14.25 points to 753.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 6.49% to 540.20, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 2.94% to settle at 438.85 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.82% to close at 1056.50.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.35% to 635.25 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 1.74% to settle at 536.25 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.03% to 5661.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 844 to 619 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1502 fell and 1313 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.59% to 16.7700.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.39% or 5.05 to $1284.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.42% or 0.19 to hit $45.08 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.27 to trade at $46.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 66.623, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 73.6020.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 97.69.
