Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.48% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 8.90% or 198.05 points to trade at 2,423.50 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 5.30% or 42.15 points to end at 837.70 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was up 3.53% or 23.80 points to 697.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which lost 0.60% or 7.20 points to trade at 1,191.45 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 0.58% or 2.55 points to end at 435.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 0.42% or 3.90 points to 925.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which rose 2.32% to 1,654.55, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 2.11% to settle at 8,725.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.49% to close at 7,126.15.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.58% to 435.25 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.42% to settle at 1,191.40 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 0.33% to 926.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1076 to 1031 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1893 rose and 1777 declined, while 172 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.46% to 12.18 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 2.30 to $2,014.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.23% or 0.92 to hit $75.78 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.92 to trade at $80.79 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 83.33, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 91.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 103.08.
