Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.47% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 5.23% or 26.65 points to trade at 536.45 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) added 4.61% or 19.25 points to end at 436.50 and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) was up 4.04% or 18.70 points to 481.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which lost 4.19% or 38.00 points to trade at 869.05 in late trade. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 2.23% or 28.45 points to end at 1248.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 2.11% or 6.45 points to 299.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which rose 3.18% to 612.40, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 2.60% to settle at 8076.50 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.48% to close at 484.40.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.08% to 299.25 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 1.65% to settle at 212.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.25% to 320.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 829 to 745 and 13 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1348 rose and 1305 declined, while 144 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.21% to 11.6175.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.70 to $1279.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $52.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.09 to trade at $58.35 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 64.811, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 76.5558.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 93.58.
