Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.47% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 3.59% or 18.15 points to trade at 522.65 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.51% or 10.75 points to end at 439.75 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 2.07% or 5.35 points to 264.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 2.89% or 5.20 points to trade at 174.80 in late trade. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 2.09% or 2.50 points to end at 117.35 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 1.86% or 14.30 points to 754.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.37% to 522.90, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.53% to settle at 439.90 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.88% to close at 1778.05.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 3.18% to 73.05 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 3.05% to settle at 174.70 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 1.79% to 46.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 856 to 699 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1257 fell and 1117 advanced, while 191 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.44% to 12.3375 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.19% or 2.75 to $1483.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.77% or 0.47 to hit $60.40 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.32 to trade at $65.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 71.054, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 79.1185.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.850.
