Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.46% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.37% or 5.35 points to trade at 164.30 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 2.91% or 29.75 points to end at 1,053.45 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 2.78% or 14.75 points to 544.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 2.46% or 62.85 points to trade at 2,495.75 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 1.48% or 14.60 points to end at 973.05 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) shed 1.32% or 99.60 points to 7,456.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 2.92% to 1,053.65, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.56% to settle at 175.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 2.22% to close at 110.30.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.45% to 972.45 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 1.30% to settle at 7,456.05 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.11% to 790.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1154 to 799 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2014 rose and 1490 declined, while 181 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.68% to 11.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.21% or 4.20 to $1,996.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.65% or 0.49 to hit $75.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.45 to trade at $78.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 81.86, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 89.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 102.06.
