Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.32%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 3.77% or 213.05 points to trade at 5,871.00 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.11% or 14.15 points to end at 468.90 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 2.76% or 22.15 points to 823.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which lost 2.83% or 108.70 points to trade at 3,737.70 in late trade. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 0.84% or 42.00 points to end at 4,981.35 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 0.78% or 74.55 points to 9,468.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 3.68% to 5,866.40, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.35% to settle at 1,534.85 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.88% to close at 1,227.95.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 0.87% to 7,123.70 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.87% to settle at 9,461.20 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 0.81% to 972.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1115 to 883 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1940 rose and 1520 declined, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.63% to 11.14.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.01% or 0.25 to $1,959.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.80% or 0.66 to hit $83.58 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.61 to trade at $86.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 82.85, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 90.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 102.23.
