India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.28%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.28% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.40%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 3.06% or 154.90 points to trade at 5211.40 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 2.09% or 57.30 points to end at 2795.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 1.75% or 34.25 points to 1992.45 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 2.29% or 5.75 points to trade at 245.50 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 2.23% or 13.00 points to end at 569.30 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) shed 1.84% or 4.50 points to 240.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 3.00% to 5207.55, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 2.23% to settle at 2797.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.82% to close at 1993.75.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.18% to 569.60 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.00% to settle at 916.90 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.70% to 98.05 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 897 to 762 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1422 rose and 1414 declined, while 162 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.29% to 18.6175.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.09% or 1.70 to $1867.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.44% or 0.20 to hit $45.56 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.20 to trade at $48.59 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.25% to 73.575, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 89.1625.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 90.840.
