Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Auto, Technology and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 6.99% or 22.65 points to trade at 343.55 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 2.88% or 43.30 points to end at 1545.20 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 2.48% or 62.90 points to 2600.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 8.61% or 44.95 points to trade at 489.65 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 1.97% or 2.50 points to end at 123.10 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 2.90% or 9.20 points to 308.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 6.02% to 343.45, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 2.71% to settle at 1545.20 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 2.49% to close at 2604.00.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.76% to 308.45 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.50% to settle at 409.05 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.05% to 124.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 890 to 682 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1301 fell and 1055 advanced, while 130 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.33% to 15.1875 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.14% or 16.35 to $1448.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.30% or 1.24 to hit $55.19 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.61% or 1.58 to trade at $62.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.92% to 69.638, while EUR/INR rose 1.03% to 77.2670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 98.058.
