Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Auto, Public Sector Undertakings and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 4.04% or 21.80 points to trade at 562.05 at the close. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 3.42% or 13.70 points to end at 414.50 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 2.20% or 10.10 points to 469.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which lost 2.28% or 11.25 points to trade at 482.60 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 1.98% or 35.80 points to end at 1773.95 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) shed 1.45% or 5.55 points to 376.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which rose 3.27% to 414.30, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 1.91% to settle at 467.40 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 1.53% to close at 1718.30.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.23% to 2361.35 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.23% to settle at 540.00 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 1.15% to 828.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 852 to 744 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1355 fell and 1270 advanced, while 165 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.35% to 14.0375.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.64 to $1284.34 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.85% or 1.05 to hit $57.88 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.63 to trade at $63.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 64.895, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 76.2908.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 93.75.
