Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.96% or 24.20 points to trade at 636.00 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 3.92% or 52.80 points to end at 1,399.50 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 3.87% or 32.95 points to 884.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which lost 5.61% or 65.80 points to trade at 1,107.55 in late trade. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 1.27% or 30.05 points to end at 2,340.10 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 1.16% or 101.80 points to 8,694.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.89% to 165.75, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.75% to settle at 290.00 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 1.63% to close at 1,842.75.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.07% to 3,832.65 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.01% to settle at 1,188.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.72% to 12,900.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1338 to 832 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2155 rose and 1516 declined, while 106 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.78% to 10.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.51% or 11.95 to $2,330.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.42% or 0.35 to hit $83.01 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.26 to trade at $88.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 83.29, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 89.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 105.65.
