Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Telecoms and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Retail and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.16% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index lost 0.34%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 2.59% or 1.960 points to trade at 77.490 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 1.53% or 1.70 points to end at 112.65 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 1.42% or 0.129 points to 9.202 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 1.30% or 0.094 points to trade at 7.155 in late trade. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) declined 1.11% or 0.180 points to end at 16.050 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) shed 0.92% or 0.810 points to 86.900.
The top performers on the MDAX were Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which rose 2.73% to 15.610, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was up 2.06% to settle at 33.520 and Hannover Rueck SE (DE:HNRGn) which gained 1.21% to close at 113.15.
The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 2.86% to 67.250 in late trade, Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which lost 2.07% to settle at 15.16 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 1.94% to 63.740 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 3.69% to 5.335, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was up 2.13% to settle at 4.605 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 1.80% to close at 23.750.
The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 3.62% to 83.500 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 3.38% to settle at 9.457 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 3.34% to 13.387 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 422 to 344 and 18 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.03% to 15.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.54% or 6.83 to $1250.17 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.59 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.04 to trade at $50.50 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.09% to 1.0920, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.8457.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 98.92.
