Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Retail and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Basic Resources and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.09%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.63%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 1.64% or 0.099 points to trade at 6.134 at the close. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) added 1.28% or 1.210 points to end at 95.650 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) was up 1.13% or 0.830 points to 74.260 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which lost 2.90% or 0.635 points to trade at 21.295 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 2.14% or 0.350 points to end at 16.020 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 1.82% or 0.122 points to 6.599.
The top performers on the MDAX were GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which rose 3.46% to 35.560, Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was up 2.32% to settle at 57.350 and Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which gained 2.18% to close at 36.12.
The worst performers were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was down 1.97% to 30.110 in late trade, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which lost 1.05% to settle at 30.575 and Fielmann AG (DE:FIEG) which was down 0.84% to 59.250 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which rose 2.04% to 18.980, Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which was up 1.24% to settle at 26.080 and Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which gained 0.88% to close at 36.510.
The worst performers were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 3.18% to 9.689 in late trade, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which lost 2.19% to settle at 42.900 and RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was down 1.54% to 14.080 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 433 to 430 and 35 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.75% to 18.99.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.81% or 9.65 to $1179.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.27% or 1.57 to hit $46.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.10% or 1.52 to trade at $47.48 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.37% to 1.0593, while EUR/GBP rose 0.32% to 0.8506.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 101.54.
