Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer & Cyclical, Basic Resources and Technology sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Transportation & Logistics and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.01%, while the MDAX index fell 0.16%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN), which rose 9.42% or 15.05 points to trade at 174.85 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) added 2.88% or 0.395 points to end at 14.120 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) was up 1.85% or 0.320 points to 17.635 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 3.63% or 0.268 points to trade at 7.108 in late trade. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) declined 2.75% or 0.885 points to end at 31.305 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) shed 1.21% or 1.75 points to 143.05.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which rose 3.77% to 10.74, Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which was up 2.92% to settle at 48.035 and Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which gained 2.12% to close at 39.315.
The worst performers were Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which was down 1.58% to 29.865 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 1.55% to settle at 4.51 and Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 1.28% to 23.530 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which rose 6.24% to 75.650, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was up 4.58% to settle at 26.395 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which gained 2.77% to close at 105.85.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 1.81% to 10.280 in late trade, United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which lost 1.01% to settle at 39.180 and GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 0.63% to 18.030 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 385 to 343 and 28 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.76% to 14.20.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.60% or 7.35 to $1208.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.46% or 1.84 to hit $51.30 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.22% or 1.80 to trade at $54.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.26% to 1.0539, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.8677.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 102.16.
