Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Industrials and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.26% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index fell 0.10%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which rose 4.62% or 1.070 points to trade at 24.240 at the close. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) added 2.18% or 1.850 points to end at 86.890 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) was up 2.04% or 1.580 points to 79.200 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which lost 1.94% or 2.800 points to trade at 141.350 in late trade. Siemens AG (DE:SIEGn) declined 1.00% or 1.250 points to end at 123.750 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) shed 0.92% or 1.000 points to 107.900.
The top performers on the MDAX were Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which rose 1.91% to 58.690, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 1.50% to settle at 70.590 and Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which gained 1.09% to close at 48.910.
The worst performers were Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was down 2.06% to 37.855 in late trade, GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which lost 1.76% to settle at 38.235 and Duerr AG (DE:DUEG) which was down 1.72% to 80.560 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which rose 2.44% to 184.450, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was up 2.24% to settle at 4.025 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which gained 2.19% to close at 39.035.
The worst performers were Alix Resources Corp (F:37N2) which was down 6.38% to 0.044 in late trade, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which lost 2.61% to settle at 45.105 and Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was down 1.37% to 43.300 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 391 to 359 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.27% to 14.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.47% or 5.85 to $1233.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.44% or 0.78 to hit $53.55 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.48% or 0.84 to trade at $55.82 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.23% to 1.0561, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8488.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 101.36.
