Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Media, Consumer & Cyclical and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Technology and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.09%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.22%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.30%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which rose 2.62% or 0.370 points to trade at 14.490 at the close. Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) added 1.83% or 3.20 points to end at 178.05 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 1.57% or 0.121 points to 7.837 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which lost 2.72% or 2.80 points to trade at 100.30 in late trade. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) declined 2.56% or 2.220 points to end at 84.430 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) shed 1.29% or 1.85 points to 141.20.

The top performers on the MDAX were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which rose 3.07% to 51.300, RTL Group SA (DE:RRTL) which was up 2.61% to settle at 75.110 and Fielmann AG (DE:FIEG) which gained 2.38% to close at 72.590.

The worst performers were Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which was down 1.94% to 29.285 in late trade, Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which lost 1.62% to settle at 33.955 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was down 1.45% to 73.330 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 4.15% to 27.490, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was up 1.88% to settle at 4.183 and Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which gained 1.12% to close at 10.395.

The worst performers were STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 4.48% to 46.520 in late trade, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which lost 4.01% to settle at 86.100 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 3.03% to 47.915 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 385 to 363 and 29 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.32% to 14.25.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.50% or 6.05 to $1203.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.41% or 1.21 to hit $49.07 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.30% or 1.22 to trade at $51.89 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.40% to 1.0583, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.8701.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 101.92.
