Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Media, Telecoms and Food & Beverages sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Construction, Basic Resources and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.36%, while the MDAX index gained 0.01%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p), which rose 2.65% or 2.24 points to trade at 86.78 at the close. Linde PLC (DE:LINI) added 1.05% or 1.850 points to end at 178.350 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) was up 1.04% or 0.160 points to 15.480 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which lost 3.06% or 1.430 points to trade at 45.360 in late trade. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) declined 2.84% or 1.980 points to end at 67.710 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) shed 2.75% or 1.860 points to 65.840.
The top performers on the MDAX were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which rose 11.82% to 62.450, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 2.65% to settle at 22.460 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which gained 1.93% to close at 87.1500.
The worst performers were Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which was down 3.26% to 13.500 in late trade, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which lost 2.82% to settle at 10.70 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 2.62% to 74.09 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which rose 3.68% to 67.700, SLM Solutions Group AG (DE:AM3D) which was up 3.17% to settle at 10.42 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which gained 2.65% to close at 22.460.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.78% to 23.100 in late trade, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which lost 2.76% to settle at 28.200 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 2.60% to 62.140 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 409 to 291 and 77 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.78% to 15.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.42% or 5.55 to $1336.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.74% or 1.46 to hit $51.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.26% or 1.41 to trade at $60.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.27% to 1.1299, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8901.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 96.885.
