Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Food & Beverages and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Insurance, Technology and Retail sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.02%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.59%, and the TecDAX index added 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which rose 0.88% or 0.36 points to trade at 41.34 at the close. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) added 0.61% or 0.55 points to end at 90.83 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) was up 0.48% or 0.115 points to 24.045 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 1.50% or 0.245 points to trade at 16.070 in late trade. Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) declined 0.81% or 0.235 points to end at 28.745 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) shed 0.80% or 1.35 points to 167.65.
The top performers on the MDAX were Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which rose 3.89% to 112.200, Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was up 2.08% to settle at 47.615 and Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which gained 1.78% to close at 25.465.
The worst performers were Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was down 1.02% to 52.41 in late trade, Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which lost 1.00% to settle at 72.90 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 0.62% to 161.25 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which rose 7.47% to 14.035, RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was up 3.94% to settle at 24.795 and Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which gained 2.58% to close at 13.110.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 5.77% to 11.505 in late trade, Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which lost 1.80% to settle at 26.515 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 1.18% to 25.100 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 418 to 373 and 23 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.39% to 13.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 3.30 to $1290.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.73% or 0.44 to hit $59.53 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.56 to trade at $65.90 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.35% to 1.1900, while EUR/GBP rose 0.17% to 0.8881.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 92.59.
