Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.61%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.31%, and the TecDAX index added 1.85%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Covestro AG (DE:1COV), which rose 5.47% or 2.580 points to trade at 49.780 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) added 4.70% or 0.795 points to end at 17.700 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) was up 4.53% or 6.60 points to 152.36 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which lost 0.94% or 0.470 points to trade at 49.390 in late trade. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) declined 0.47% or 0.130 points to end at 27.800 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) shed 0.37% or 0.034 points to 9.181.

The top performers on the MDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 5.12% to 76.020, Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was up 4.43% to settle at 43.400 and Duerr AG (DE:DUEG) which gained 4.34% to close at 31.010.

The worst performers were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which was down 1.82% to 15.410 in late trade, Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which lost 1.06% to settle at 25.280 and Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which was down 0.71% to 55.800 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 8.32% to 9.3960, Tele Columbus AG (DE:TC1n) which was up 6.57% to settle at 3.08 and Hornbach Holding VZO O.N. (DE:HBH) which gained 6.40% to close at 53.200.

The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 3.45% to 46.980 in late trade, SGL Carbon SE (DE:SGCG) which lost 3.26% to settle at 8.610 and Indus Holding AG (DE:INHG) which was down 2.74% to 40.800 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 487 to 221 and 71 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 8.61% to 19.22.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.45% or 5.50 to $1226.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.93% or 2.10 to hit $55.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.56% or 1.60 to trade at $64.13 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.15% to 1.1387, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.8918.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.632.
