Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Industrials and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc . (TO:TXG), which rose 20.00% or 0.170 points to trade at 1.020 at the close. Meanwhile, Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) added 12.05% or 0.20 points to end at 1.86 and Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp . (TO:PRE) was up 9.49% or 0.30 points to 3.46 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (TO:CP), which fell 5.51% or 11.38 points to trade at 194.97 at the close. Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF) declined 5.18% or 0.12 points to end at 2.10 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was down 4.79% or 0.09 points to 1.79.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 751 to 622 and 193 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (TO:CP) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.51% or 11.38 to 194.97. Shares in Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) fell to 5-year lows; losing 4.79% or 0.09 to 1.79.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.79% to 10.05.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.66% or 7.30 to $1099.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.80% or 0.41 to hit $50.84 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.42 to trade at $57.07 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.7724, while CAD/EUR fell 0.66% to 0.7061.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.77% at 97.42.
