Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Real Estate and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 2.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:ATRL), which rose 1.89% or 0.85 points to trade at 45.76 at the close. Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) added 1.51% or 0.51 points to end at 34.25 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 1.35% or 0.08 points to 6.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO), which lost 7.45% or 0.61 points to trade at 7.58 in late trade. Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) declined 7.33% or 3.84 points to end at 48.57 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) shed 6.50% or 3.25 points to 46.75.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 732 to 243 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 13.29% to 12.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.37% or 26.95 to $1,940.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.09% or 0.08 to hit $89.58 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.28 to trade at $93.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.14% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 105.07.
