Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.91% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pason Systems Inc . (TSX:PSI), which rose 3.64% or 0.44 points to trade at 12.53 at the close. Stantec Inc (TSX:STN) added 3.40% or 1.33 points to end at 40.43 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 3.39% or 0.040 points to 1.220 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 12.56% or 1.76 points to trade at 12.25 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) declined 9.55% or 0.57 points to end at 5.40 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) shed 8.78% or 1.26 points to 13.09.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 979 to 138 and 79 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 3.10 to $1640.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.97% or 2.42 to hit $46.31 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.58% or 1.89 to trade at $50.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.41% to 0.7470, while CAD/EUR fell 1.39% to 0.6795.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.54% at 98.405.
