Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Telecoms and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 16.45% or 0.875 points to trade at 6.195 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 11.33% or 2.660 points to end at 26.130 and Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) was up 10.05% or 2.79 points to 30.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which lost 5.05% or 0.51 points to trade at 9.58 in late trade. Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG) declined 4.92% or 0.61 points to end at 11.80 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) shed 4.67% or 1.07 points to 21.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 703 to 374 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.40 to $1905.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.63% or 0.26 to hit $40.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.14% or 0.49 to trade at $42.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7583, while CAD/EUR fell 0.37% to 0.6443.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 93.422.
