Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Materials, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 2.09% or 0.40 points to trade at 19.54 at the close. West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX:WFG) added 2.01% or 2.12 points to end at 107.73 and Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL) was up 2.00% or 0.59 points to 30.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 6.08% or 0.23 points to trade at 3.55 in late trade. MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) declined 5.38% or 0.85 points to end at 14.95 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 5.36% or 0.21 points to 3.71.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 685 to 298 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.71% to 11.40.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.16% or 22.85 to $1,948.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.95% or 0.68 to hit $71.25 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.20 to trade at $75.89 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.11.
