Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, REITs and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 12.03% or 1.30 points to trade at 12.11 at the close. Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) added 11.56% or 0.94 points to end at 9.07 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 10.72% or 1.47 points to 15.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 13.11% or 0.160 points to trade at 1.060 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) declined 11.08% or 1.50 points to end at 12.04 and MTY Food Group Inc (TSX:MTY) shed 8.58% or 2.04 points to 21.73.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 547 to 515 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 13.00 to $1765.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.66% or 0.15 to hit $22.61 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 0.55 to trade at $32.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.42% to 0.7206, while CAD/EUR rose 0.68% to 0.6603.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 99.450.
