Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.54% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 7.69% or 0.090 points to trade at 1.260 at the close. Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL) added 2.77% or 0.170 points to end at 6.300 and Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) was up 2.77% or 0.57 points to 21.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which lost 4.24% or 0.990 points to trade at 22.380 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX) declined 4.04% or 1.69 points to end at 40.15 and Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) shed 3.68% or 0.26 points to 6.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 614 to 441 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.86% to 14.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.92 to $1291.48 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.33% or 1.57 to hit $48.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.55% or 1.81 to trade at $52.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.86% to 0.7953, while CAD/EUR rose 0.52% to 0.6761.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 93.32.
