Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 15.69% or 12.36 points to trade at 91.16 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 4.40% or 0.18 points to end at 4.27 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 3.29% or 2.56 points to 80.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 10.28% or 0.63 points to trade at 5.50 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) declined 8.88% or 1.89 points to end at 19.39 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) shed 8.41% or 1.19 points to 12.96.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 17.09% to 11.17.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.20% or 28.80 to $2,364.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.40% or 0.31 to hit $77.26 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.23 to trade at $81.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.80.
