Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrials, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA), which rose 5.40% or 1.11 points to trade at 21.65 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 5.22% or 0.25 points to end at 5.04 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) was up 4.65% or 0.76 points to 17.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u), which lost 5.41% or 1.43 points to trade at 25.00 in late trade. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) declined 4.13% or 1.63 points to end at 37.83 and Richelieu Hardware Ltd. (TSX:RCH) shed 4.13% or 1.63 points to 37.84.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 542 to 445 and 76 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.79% to 8.03 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.12% or 26.25 to $2,360.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.14% or 2.44 to hit $80.16 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.65% or 1.37 to trade at $84.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 104.52.
