Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 7.09% or 0.21 points to trade at 3.17 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 3.71% or 0.38 points to end at 10.63 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) was up 2.15% or 0.34 points to 16.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which lost 7.06% or 0.72 points to trade at 9.48 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) declined 5.48% or 0.86 points to end at 14.83 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) shed 5.01% or 0.86 points to 16.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 509 to 455 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.25% to 10.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.80% or 16.80 to $2,076.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.87% or 2.13 to hit $71.98 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.68% or 2.13 to trade at $77.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.23% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 100.92.
