Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Clean Technology, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 11.93% or 0.97 points to trade at 9.10 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) added 4.02% or 0.43 points to end at 11.12 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) was up 3.93% or 0.28 points to 7.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 5.16% or 0.76 points to trade at 13.98 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 4.87% or 1.72 points to end at 33.49 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) shed 4.56% or 7.58 points to 158.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 689 to 333 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 21.94% to 13.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.10% or 1.85 to $1799.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.87% or 0.69 to hit $78.21 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.17% or 0.96 to trade at $80.79 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.32% to 0.7883, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6960.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 95.977.
