Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Air Canada (TSX:AC), which rose 4.78% or 1.10 points to trade at 24.11 at the close. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) added 3.58% or 0.240 points to end at 6.940 and ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA) was up 3.41% or 1.47 points to 44.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 8.56% or 3.02 points to trade at 32.25 in late trade. Gibson Energy Inc . (TSX:GEI) declined 5.36% or 1.36 points to end at 24.00 and Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT) shed 4.99% or 0.23 points to 4.47.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 620 to 431 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 17.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 7.65 to $1788.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.63% or 0.53 to hit $83.52 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.24 to trade at $84.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.23% to 0.8065, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6963.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 94.078.
