Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 3.44% or 3.38 points to trade at 101.58 at the close. North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC) added 3.44% or 1.23 points to end at 37.03 and Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) was up 2.37% or 0.72 points to 31.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 8.70% or 0.24 points to trade at 2.52 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) declined 7.19% or 1.10 points to end at 14.20 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 5.65% or 0.16 points to 2.67.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 634 to 362 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.98% to 11.13.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.22% or 4.55 to $2,037.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.78% or 0.57 to hit $72.47 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.71 to trade at $77.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 103.91.
