Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Financials and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 30.97% or 0.96 points to trade at 4.06 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) added 6.27% or 1.74 points to end at 29.49 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) was up 5.42% or 0.44 points to 8.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX:PET), which lost 10.03% or 3.04 points to trade at 27.28 in late trade. Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) declined 6.05% or 0.26 points to end at 4.04 and Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) shed 5.53% or 9.39 points to 160.34.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 571 to 431 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.20% to 12.25.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.54% or 10.55 to $1,959.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.04% or 0.85 to hit $82.79 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.69 to trade at $86.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 102.37.
