Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Materials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which rose 24.08% or 0.590 points to trade at 3.040 at the close. Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TO:TOU) added 7.75% or 1.93 points to end at 26.83 and Tricon Capital Group Inc (TO:TCN) was up 7.03% or 0.76 points to 11.57 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Just Energy Group Inc . (TO:JE), which lost 9.71% or 0.68 points to trade at 6.32 in late trade. Uni-Select Inc. (TO:UNS) declined 8.63% or 2.36 points to end at 24.99 and Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS) shed 6.47% or 0.99 points to 14.31.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 613 to 507 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.11% to 13.01.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.96 to $1285.66 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.48% or 0.27 to hit $57.08 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.36 to trade at $63.85 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.38% to 0.7886, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.6775.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 94.43.
