Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ), which rose 10.93% or 7.94 points to trade at 80.61 at the close. International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) added 5.03% or 0.87 points to end at 18.15 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K) was up 4.95% or 0.46 points to 9.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 18.52% or 19.59 points to trade at 86.16 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) declined 12.33% or 1.48 points to end at 10.52 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 5.39% or 0.55 points to 9.65.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 478 to 465 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.91% to 12.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.34% or 8.00 to $2,316.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.07% or 0.84 to hit $79.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.75% or 0.62 to trade at $83.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 105.44.
