Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which rose 4.07% or 0.11 points to trade at 2.81 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) added 3.27% or 0.36 points to end at 11.37 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) was up 2.42% or 0.45 points to 19.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which lost 18.29% or 0.4700 points to trade at 2.1000 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 4.58% or 0.120 points to end at 2.500 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 4.40% or 1.155 points to 25.115.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 561 to 506 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.95 to $1515.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $61.71 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.25 to trade at $68.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.36% to 0.7647, while CAD/EUR fell 0.31% to 0.6843.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 96.650.
