Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, REITs and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS), which rose 7.53% or 0.47 points to trade at 6.71 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 5.44% or 1.07 points to end at 20.73 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC) was up 5.44% or 0.34 points to 6.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 17.92% or 0.86 points to trade at 3.94 in late trade. B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) declined 10.45% or 0.42 points to end at 3.60 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) shed 9.38% or 0.44 points to 4.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 556 to 411 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.63% to 12.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.63% or 12.75 to $2,013.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.30% or 0.97 to hit $75.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.91% or 0.72 to trade at $80.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.70% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 103.08.
