Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Artis REIT (TSX:AX_u), which rose 9.42% or 1.03 points to trade at 11.96 at the close. Lion Electric Co (TSX:LEV) added 6.57% or 0.78 points to end at 12.66 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 6.27% or 0.96 points to 16.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which lost 3.74% or 0.380 points to trade at 9.780 in late trade. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) declined 3.46% or 0.230 points to end at 6.410 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) shed 2.97% or 0.35 points to 11.42.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 738 to 303 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.62% to 14.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.62% or 11.15 to $1816.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $76.60 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $79.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.41% to 0.7849, while CAD/EUR rose 0.63% to 0.6930.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.975.
