Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 2.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON), which rose 11.97% or 0.85 points to trade at 7.95 at the close. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) added 10.60% or 0.160 points to end at 1.670 and Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL) was up 9.01% or 1.23 points to 14.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Winpak Ltd. (TSX:WPK), which lost 12.79% or 5.91 points to trade at 40.29 in late trade. MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) declined 5.04% or 0.65 points to end at 12.25 and ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL) shed 4.61% or 0.36 points to 7.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 708 to 352 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.44% or 7.25 to $1637.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.25 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.25 to trade at $51.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7467, while CAD/EUR rose 0.32% to 0.6706.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 97.350.
