Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Suncor Energy Inc (TSX:SU), which rose 12.03% or 5.07 points to trade at 47.22 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 8.72% or 2.40 points to end at 29.92 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) was up 7.20% or 0.98 points to 14.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 4.25% or 1.12 points to trade at 25.26 in late trade. Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) declined 3.03% or 0.54 points to end at 17.31 and Aecon Group Inc . (TSX:ARE) shed 1.74% or 0.27 points to 15.27.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 852 to 229 and 77 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.30% to 18.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.36% or 6.77 to $1,895.47 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.22% or 3.28 to hit $105.30 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.28% or 2.39 to trade at $107.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.66% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.68% at 103.66.
