Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.41% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 15.85% or 4.78 points to trade at 34.94 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 13.58% or 1.43 points to end at 11.96 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) was up 10.16% or 0.19 points to 2.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TSX:PBH), which lost 1.96% or 2.07 points to trade at 103.75 in late trade. Descartes Systems Group Inc (TSX:DSG) declined 1.88% or 1.82 points to end at 94.86 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) shed 1.73% or 2.33 points to 132.19.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 824 to 231 and 73 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.93% to 15.50 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.50% or 28.65 to $1,937.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 8.64% or 8.21 to hit $103.25 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 8.81% or 8.64 to trade at $106.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.79, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.08% to 0.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 98.01.
