Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.22% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which rose 5.69% or 1.27 points to trade at 23.58 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 4.00% or 1.03 points to end at 26.81 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) was up 3.88% or 0.28 points to 7.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 3.76% or 0.08 points to trade at 2.05 in late trade. Primo Water Corp (TSX:PRMW) declined 1.83% or 0.31 points to end at 16.60 and TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) shed 1.27% or 1.94 points to 150.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 770 to 198 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.20% to 11.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.42% or 8.05 to $1,925.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.84% or 0.59 to hit $70.45 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.69 to trade at $75.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.39% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 102.61.
