Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.02% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 6.35% or 0.40 points to trade at 6.70 at the close. Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) added 6.27% or 1.13 points to end at 19.14 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) was up 5.34% or 0.62 points to 12.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE), which lost 11.02% or 2.00 points to trade at 16.15 in late trade. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII) declined 5.17% or 0.23 points to end at 4.22 and Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) shed 4.94% or 0.13 points to 2.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 778 to 317 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.01% or 38.65 to $1961.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.21% or 0.09 to hit $43.44 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.09 to trade at $46.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.19% to 0.7604, while CAD/EUR rose 0.25% to 0.6429.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 92.910.
