Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Consumer Staples and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.96% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 8.81% or 0.26 points to trade at 3.21 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 6.12% or 0.64 points to end at 11.09 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) was up 5.44% or 1.23 points to 23.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 2.76% or 0.10 points to trade at 3.52 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 2.47% or 0.48 points to end at 18.95 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) shed 2.41% or 0.20 points to 8.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 632 to 330 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.69% to 11.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.60% or 37.05 to $2,345.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.14% or 0.12 to hit $86.71 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.25 to trade at $90.90 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 104.07.
