Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, REITs and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY), which rose 6.88% or 0.98 points to trade at 15.22 at the close. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) added 5.39% or 2.16 points to end at 42.27 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 4.96% or 0.84 points to 17.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX:TRIL), which lost 2.77% or 0.30 points to trade at 10.53 in late trade. Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) declined 2.29% or 0.66 points to end at 28.11 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TSX:ITP) shed 1.42% or 0.40 points to 27.71.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 710 to 296 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.64% or 11.45 to $1811.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.34% or 1.71 to hit $74.65 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 1.49 to trade at $75.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.66% to 0.8030, while CAD/EUR rose 0.39% to 0.6761.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 92.125.
